Not everyone is comfortable with the term "Spirit" or "Spirituality." Here is what I say to people, when they ask me: What does "Spirit" or "Spirituality" mean to you?

Spirituality is the science of your inner world. Spirituality is nothing fancy, or what people call “new age”. Spirituality is all about being in touch with your inner source, your higher Self, your sacred Spirit within you.

Spirituality is not against materialism. Spirituality helps you enjoy material things even more – because it teaches you the art of detachment in the act of enjoyment.

Spirituality, at the same time, is not religion; because only individuals get enlightened or Self-realized, not Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, or Christians.

The following humorous anecdote may further help to illustrate the meaning of Spirituality:

One fine day, with a glass of wine in his hand, a friend of mine explained me what it meant to him to be spiritual. He said to me, “See, this is ‘spirit’ in my hand, and I will soon be engaging in the ‘ritual’ of consuming it.” He then added, “I will start feeling ‘spiritual’ soon!”

The humor behind his remark is quite obvious. But, his humor does capture the essence of what it means to be spiritual. When one is drunk, one feels “good,” or “happy,” or on “top of the world.”

Spirituality is indeed about feeling good, happy and on top of the world. Of course, with wine you may have hangover the next morning, whereas, with the real Spirit, your life is only uplifted, deepened, and strengthened.
I would like to know what other members of this group have to say on this.
His Topic is: "Medicine and Culture". Medicine but beyond Medicine.
Medicine and Care like Science but even like a spiritual topic. Where health is also Spiritual Health.
My goal, like I wrote in my Presentation (located on the "Home Page"), is "Reaching the roots of Sufferance", in order to overcome them.

I believe Physical Health and Care very important. We are also Physical bodies.
So care is also Physical.

But not only. Health is, above all, inner health, restoring the inner balance that means body and mind wellness.

Health is also overcoming sufferance, the inner sufference preventing us from living a "full life" in the true sense of the world!

I'm also promoting my Group here because this Forum is concerned with every aspect of Human Soul, And so, I this that your contribution may be interesting in drawing, together, a way of conceiving health, sickness and to try to draw ways to overcome it.

I hope, inside my new Group, to have a deep sharing, of our health conditions, about our inner life, about even sufferance, but also about the path leading to its end.

The address of my Group is: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Medicine-and-Culture.

Here is the Home Page, where you may ask for joining. As soon as I receive your application, I'll approve it.

Everybody is welcome. The Group is just started.
But a group is a structure to be built up together. Thanks the help of each Member.

I'm waiting for you!

May inner peace and joy flood each moment of your life!

What does systems engineering have anything to do with egolessness? Actually nothing ! But, more recently, the field has been expanding beyond technological systems to include new discipline like social science. One of the readings assigned in this class was an HBR article by Chris Argyris, "Teaching smart people how to learn". Chris argues that the smart people fall into the trap of single loop learning. They know how to execute well what they know and they mostly succeed. But they don't respond so well (a.k.a respond defensively and blame others) if they fail. He further argues that these people could benefit from double loop learning (i.e. to reflect on one's failure to find the real causes of failures and find ways to address them).

What happens next is a comment by the course instructor. He shares an observation that this situation - smart people falling into the trap of single loop learning - is mostly present in a western way of life. The emphasis on "I" or ego puts a lot of pressure to rationalize and defend one's actions at the cost of letting it go and learn. According to him, the eastern world (he was primarily referring to Buddhist philosophy) gets around this problem by de-emphasizing ego. Not to mention, I had an interesting conversation with him after the class.
Shailendra Can happiness be a cause?tag:bodymindheartspirit.ning.com,2008-06-01:505106:Topic:68912008-06-01T16:08:37.000ZJosephinehttp://bodymindheartspirit.ning.com/profile/Josephine

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well. I am posting after almost a year now. I started school this year and it has been an interesting experience trying to find balance between work and school. Anyways, it's good to be back here and I thought I'd share a thought I have had for a while.

Here it goes - if the goal is to be happy and if happiness is the effect, then it makes sense to do and possess everything (school, job, family, wealth and so on and so forth) that will hopefully lead to happiness within oneself. However, there are possible problems with this statement. First, one may find an ideal job but there is no guarantee that it will remain ideal forever. The job might evolve over a time and so could one's definition of an ideal job. This will easily lead to dissatisfaction. Second, one could lose an ideal job. This will lead to constant fear of uncertainty. Third, an ideal job may not lend itself to an ideal performance at the job. If one is attached (to the results), then unfavorable results will only lead to frustration and anguish.

Of course, I am not trying to paint a gloomy picture as it may be possible to let it go, find another job and move on. But there is an important point I want to highlight. What if happiness is not just an effect? What if one does not need a reason to be happy about? What if happiness could be a cause? What if it is possible to be happy because one can and is prepared to be? Then may be it is possible for one to create happiness (cause) just as much, if not more, by doing and possessing everything else that will lead to happiness (effect).

Hope to hear everyone's comments and thoughts.
Dear friends. I'm plesed to share with you a Poem. I wrote this Poem when I attended a retreat in Hohenau - Bavarian Forrest, Germany, in 2005.
The topic of this writing is simple: in order to live a full life, we ought to get rid of the past, facing sorrow and anguish that may come across during our life, without running away. If you face sorrow, you find out that joy may spread from it. If you face the beast lying into yourself, fearless and out of a smile, a wonderful flower may blossom. And…

I wish you the best in each moment of your life. May your heart be full of joy and peace!
Allow your self, my dear friend, to carry your weight, making it light.
Allow yourself to get rid of the picture, laying deeply in your heart, crowding it: it’s not you.
Allow yourself: don’t be carried away by your thoughts: they are just illusions: they are nothing!

Allow yourself to look deeply into your heart.
A treasure you’ll find, the best… emptiness.

A drop of emptiness, and, at the same, the Whole Universe in you, and you in it.
So, true Life may blossom in you: enjoy each moment, and the whispering of the wind will soon
Change in a melody, whose notes are the ones of your heart: it’s Love!
Dear Friends.
I'd like to share with you a Poetry I wrote at the end of a period I spend in a Spiritual Practice Center in Germany, between September and October 2006, for about one month (Intersein Zentrum, founded by Karl and Helga Riedl. The most important Center in Europe for Thich Nhat Nanh Tradition. For this Tradition see : www.iamhome.org ).
It was a very flufilling period, rich of positive and wholesome light. In which I came acrosso several friendly people, expecially from Germany, but not even.

At the end of these days, when the day of departure came closer and closer (even delayed as much as possible), I felt like a dream was about to reach its end.
So, my impression was like "opening my eyes", in the morning, afret a wonderful dream.

In this way, it may appear like a remind, a thing fading more and more.

But, reminding Thich Nhat Hanh, in the Ultimate Dimension there's "No coming, no going, no after, no before" and everything is here.

So, when we dwell in mindfulness, everything is here, and the voices resound again in my heart.

This is true life. Everything is impermanent, but there's no death, no birth, but only trasformation.

So, let mee know your impressions about my poetry.

A lot of greetings to everybody, with an Ocean of light, that may fill your life with joy, peace and Love.

Sergio.
